U.S. Restricts Visas for Nationals of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

The U.S. State Department announced a new visa restriction policy on Monday and immediately applied it to nationals of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, along with their immediate families. It said it revoked existing visas for 12 Bolivians, 2 Colombians, 2 Ecuadorians and 1 Peruvian; 9 additional Bolivians who did not hold visas were made generally ineligible. Separately, the department publicly designated Bolivia's Attorney General Roger Mariaca under a corruption provision, making him and his immediate family generally ineligible for U.S. entry. The department accused those targeted of undermining elected governments through corruption or narcotrafficking; those allegations are its own.
