Hapag-Lloyd chief executive Rolf Habben Jansen is due in Israel on September 23 to formulate a materially revised offer with FIMI for ZIM, with submission expected September 27. The proposed $4.2 billion purchase of all ZIM shares faces opposition from six of eight Israeli state bodies responsible for approval. Officials object to leaving the separate Israeli carrier with only 16 vessels and three direct routes, two to Greece and one to the United States. The state is seeking at least six direct routes, potentially ten, including service to the Far East, to protect maritime access and financial resilience.
