Argentina Reaffirms Magellan Strait Treaties After Chilean Protest

Argentina's foreign ministry said the 1881 Boundary Treaty and 1984 Peace and Friendship Treaty remain fully in force and definitive for its position on the Strait of Magellan. The statement followed Chile's formal protest over remarks by Argentine Air Force chief Gustavo Javier Valverde that Santiago interpreted as questioning Chilean sovereignty. Argentina also reaffirmed the strategic value of cooperation with Chile and its commitment to address shared issues through established government channels.
