Great Britain’s Energy Price Cap Rises 4% to £1,723 From October

Britain’s energy regulator Ofgem has raised its price cap by 4% for October through December 2026. The annualized benchmark for a typical dual-fuel household paying by direct debit will increase by £60, from £1,663 to £1,723, or about £5 a month. Ofgem said an 11% rise in wholesale prices over the previous three months, driven mainly by higher international gas costs amid the Middle East conflict, was the dominant factor. The cap applies in England, Scotland and Wales and limits unit rates and standing charges, not a household’s total bill.
