Kosovo’s VV and LDK Back Bekim Sejdiu for President

Kosovo’s Vetëvendosje and Democratic League agreed to nominate law professor Bekim Sejdiu for president after talks between caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku at the Kosovo Assembly. Abdixhiku said negotiations had continued since July 9 and considered several candidates before the parties settled on Sejdiu, who accepted. Sejdiu is a former Constitutional Court judge, ambassador to Turkey and consul general in New York. The two parties hold 71 seats; with minority-party support they could reach 81, while 80 lawmakers must be present for a valid presidential vote. No date has been announced for the Assembly’s speaker, government or presidential votes.
