Palestinian Islamic Jihad claims that early Friday morning, "collaborator" militia forces backed by Israeli drones tried to abduct a member near al-Qarara, north of Khan Younis. PIJ fighters engaged the infiltrating force at close range, reportedly killing/wounding several. As the force withdrew, aided by drone cover, its members allegedly shot and killed the fighter they had abducted, Fadi Ali Saeed al-Abadla, leaving his body behind. The group confirms al-Abadla was a member of its al-Qarara Battalion, Khan Younis Brigade.
The IDF said its 36th Division secured the Ali al-Taher Ridge in southern Lebanon and cleared Hezbollah fighters from two underground routes, killing some and forcing others to flee. The military said the Iran-funded network, built over two decades, contained command centers, weapons stores and living facilities that allowed Hezbollah operatives to conduct prolonged underground operations. Troops are still working to neutralize the infrastructure and will adjust their defensive posture once the operation ends.
The IDF said it killed Talal Mustafa Saleh Badawi, a commander in Hamas’ Military Security Department within its Gaza City Brigade, and Hamas operative Momon Saeed Mohammed Hawari in a Monday strike. CENTCOM said U.S. forces carried out a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets on Sept. 1, hitting IRGC air defenses, radar and communications systems, maritime facilities and assets, and mine-laying capabilities. A notable event in Gaza today: A Palestinian militia backed by Israeli support raided Gaza City's Al-Katiba district, captured a senior Hamas Internal Security official, then covered its withdrawal with heavy airstrikes. The IDF said in a statement that it took Mu'in al-Arabid, head of Hamas's General Security apparatus since October 2023. However, a Hamas-linked source disputed the claim, saying only a lower-ranking officer was seized while the real target got away. Notably, Israeli officials and news outlets said the raid was actually carried out by an Israeli-backed anti-Hamas Palestinian militia under IDF Southern Command, not Israeli troops, with the IDF limited to air cover. Arabic news outlets reported the raiding force reportedly disguised itself using a bus and motorcycles before being detected and ambushed at close range. Hamas's security media frames the whole operation as largely foiled, claiming it captured three alleged collaborators and inflicted casualties on the raiders. CENTCOM said that at noon ET, U.S. forces began striking IRGC targets in Iran in response to attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. troops in the region.
