Přeloženo z jazyka angličtinaDeeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gloria Steinem z”l, a feminist icon who bravely stood behind her ideas despite very real risks and became an enduring symbol of the modern women's movement. Steinem's Jewish heritage informed her passion for social justice and civil rights. She once said, “Wherever there is antisemitism, I identify as a Jew,” and in 1975 joined dozens of prominent women in signing a letter condemning the UN resolution equating Zionism with racism. May her memory be a blessing. https://t.co/ckzP8qoIcz
Incredibly moving visit to the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, where I had the opportunity to tour its interactive 10/7 exhibit, “06:29 – From Darkness to Light.” The exhibit bears witness to the horrors of that day while honoring the extraordinary resilience of the Israeli people.
For ideologues who are single-mindedly obsessed with vilifying and delegitimizing Israel, facts don't matter. They put on blinders and choose to ignore anything that gets in the way of painting the Jewish state as uniquely evil. To be clear, war is awful and the loss of innocent life is terrible. Genocide, however, is not a synonym for war. It requires the specific intent to destroy a people, in whole or in part. Anyone making the extraordinarily grave accusation of genocide should have to contend with the facts, including data like this, rather than ignore anything that cuts against their predetermined conclusion. Falsely accusing Israel of that sin, while subjecting it to standards applied to no other country, is not simply criticism of the country. It is a kind of blood libel, the sort of vicious slander that has been lodged against the Jewish people for millennia and used as a pretext to persecute them. Now the target is the Jewish state, but the source is the same: raw, poisonous antisemitism.
A mom took her four-year-old to a publicly funded, family-friendly puppet festival in NYC. Instead, the performance reportedly veered into highly critical and offensive messaging about Israel, the world's only Jewish state. This is an inappropriate use of public resources. Publicly funded cultural programming should never contribute to an environment in which Jewish New Yorkers feel unsafe. https://t.co/q0Lh7k4Fr5
Are the public figures and elected officials associating with Hasan Piker actually watching his streams, or do they just see his reach and ignore the rampant antisemitism? On a recent stream, Piker once again showed extraordinary ignorance and intolerance of the Jewish community and culture. He says Israel is becoming "Jewish ISIS," comparing a democratic country to a jihadist terrorist group. This is absurd. Piker also managed to villainize something as innocent as Jewish summer camp, claiming kids are subjected to “unlimited amounts of Zionist propaganda” and “Zionist indoctrination.” Um, has he ever been to Jewish summer camp? It’s basically softball, swimming and silliness. This would be laughable if it wasn’t so dangerous. Then he continued his rant by claiming Jewish leaders are “teaching people” the antisemitic dual loyalty trope. The Jewsplaining is extraordinary: Piker appoints himself an authority on antisemitism, lecturing Jews about what is and isn’t antisemitic while blaming the Jewish community for the hatred directed against it. Blaming the victim isn’t brave, it’s pathetic.
Faculty are supposed to protect students, not organize campaigns that leave Jewish students and colleagues feeling excluded, intimidated and unsafe. @ADL's new report dives into the organized faculty groups that helped drive anti-Israel and antisemitic activity on U.S. campuses. https://t.co/hqHifeoFQC
Unions are meant to stand up for all their members, but too many are failing Jewish faculty by embracing one-sided anti-Israel policies that sideline and alienate them. A new @ADL report with @TheAENetwork shows what's happening, and what needs to change. https://t.co/owyD0DeUIq
The posts by Mark Ruffalo over the past 48 hours are cynical and sickening. Oppose the Paramount merger on the merits, find arguments grounded in facts, and draw on what you know about the industry without engaging in antisemitic rhetoric. Introducing the Jewish state out of the blue when it's entirely unrelated, making baseless claims about Israel, and then trying to avoid accountability by essentially claiming that "some of my best friends are Jewish" is gaslighting 101. Mark Ruffalo, your acting might be convincing on screen, but careless and hateful words like yours continue to put Jewish communities around the world at risk while antisemitic incidents are far too common.
Despite a rise in antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment, it's encouraging to see Jewish New Yorkers showing up to celebrate and support Israeli food and culture. It's a reminder that our community continues to flourish, even when targeted by hate and exclusion. A small but meaningful sign of resilience and pride. https://t.co/I2RVbze6ip
A Jewish faculty member saying they no longer feel represented by their own union illuminates an issue much larger than policy. This sentiment indicates a profound failure on the part of higher education unions to protect all of their members by allowing anti-Israel factions to influence their actions. @ADL and @TheAENetwork have partnered in documenting this problem, but unions themselves must move to resolve it.
Let's be clear about what Chicago DSA is actually doing. They're screening candidates for their willingness to deny Jews the right to self-determination. This is essentially a loyalty test against Jews and Zionists disguised as progressive politics. If you wouldn't tolerate this level of bigotry applied to other groups of people, you certainly shouldn't tolerate it here.
Protests got the headlines. But two new @ADL reports show the campus antisemitism problem persists inside the classroom, where professors treat anti-Israel bias as fact, assign terror group readings and urge students to oppose antisemitism protections. Academic freedom is not a license for indoctrination and spreading hate.
