After 12 years covering Iraq for @washingtonpost , this journey has come to an end. I was laid off as part of the layoffs that began affecting the International desk earlier this year. I’m proud of every moment of those 12 years, and deeply proud to have had the opportunity to tell Iraq’s story through one of the most consequential periods in its recent history — from the rise of ISIS and the long war that followed, through years of political upheaval, protests, regional tensions, and most recently the Iran war. Above all, I had the honor and privilege of working alongside brilliant colleagues who became some of my closest friends. I couldn’t have asked for better colleagues or people to share this journey with. I leave this chapter grateful for everything it taught me, the stories I was trusted to tell, and the people I met along the way. Here’s to new adventures and whatever comes next. And as I begin looking for my next opportunity, I’d be grateful if friends and colleagues would keep me in mind for any roles, projects, collaborations, or opportunities where my experience in journalism, research, Iraq could be useful.
