True. And that incentive cannot be built through negotiations or promises of economic support, as 12 years of ceasefires and UN-led negotiations have proven time & again. The only incentive that will compel the #Houthis to de-escalate is losing territory.
This statement is misleading. Military efforts against the #Houthis failed because every time Yemeni forces advanced, international pressure forced them to stop, while the Houthis continued to expand & consolidate territorial gains. The Stockholm Agreement is a stark example.
Marib might be next on the Houthi-IRGC menu #Yemen
@AimenDean is spot on. Half-wars don’t work. Either you deal with the threat head-on with the full force necessary to defeat it, or you accept the strategic consequences of a more emboldened #Houthis in your backyard.
Iran is now trying to bring the #Houthis into its negotiations with the US. This 1) turns them into a source of leverage; and 2) preserves them as a strategic asset for expanding Iran’s regional influence and projecting power in the future.
الحبيبة كنانة، اليمن يليق بكك. لن ينسى اليمن موقفك ومواقف كل الإخوة السوريين المتضامنين معنا. ❤️🇾🇪🇸🇾
Thank you, Congressman @RepJoeWilson, for standing with the Yemeni people against Houthi tyranny. Yemenis will remember those who stood with them.

1) The past week has seen a significant escalation in southwestern #Yemen, with the Houthis advancing toward government-held territory as government forces push back across several fronts. What are the Houthis trying to achieve? https://t.co/Hhs4OCed2Z
1) Today I had the honor to testify before @HouseForeign on the Houthi threat to U.S. interests & #RedSea security. The #Houthis are no longer just a #Yemen problem. They have both the intent and capability to threaten U.S. interests. https://t.co/1wVoLasGnV
For the past few years, I've been researching the #Houthis' expansion in the Horn of Africa. Very excited that our report is finally out, co-authored with @peterjsalisbury & @PuntlandPirates, with contributions from a great group of researchers across the region. https://t.co/8DhpmmVEHv
This is a solid backgound on the #Houthis' leader, Abdulmalik Al-Houthi.
Just to give you an idea of the scale of the #Houthis’ escalation against Yemeni government forces: In just a few days, they launched 40 ballistic missiles, 46 drones, & multiple explosive-laden boats at the city of Mokha, hitting the port and other civilian infrastructure.
A major development in #Yemen is that, for the first time since 2014, government forces have air power and have recently used it to carry out strikes against the Houthis, as this video from the @Yem_army_media illustrates.
The #Houthis’ recent escalation against Saudi Arabia & Yemeni government forces may reveal a broader shift in Saudi strategy. After years of de-escalation, Riyadh seems to be strengthening its options in #Yemen, the #RedSea & across the region. My latest
