Beersheba Inaugurates Rakefot Street Honoring Former Deputy Mayor Sima Navon

Beersheba has inaugurated a street in the Rakefot neighborhood named for Sima Navon, nine years after her death in 2017. The neighborhood’s street-naming policy honors women who made notable public, social and community contributions. Navon, born in 1956, taught science at Telamim elementary school before serving on the City Council and as deputy mayor under Yaakov Turner. She also chaired the city’s economic-development company and worked to advance women’s participation in public life. Mayor Rubik Danilovich described Navon as an educator and public servant who helped residents and said the city owed her this commemoration.
