Germany Expands Israeli Arrow 3 Shield to Bavaria

Germany selected the greater Kaufbeuren area in Bavaria for the next operational site of its Israeli Arrow 3 ballistic-missile shield. The Bundeswehr announcement says the southern sensor site, added to the eastern Holzdorf/Schonewalde site, is meant to give Germany round-the-clock, nationwide protection against ballistic missiles and its first ability to detect and intercept threats outside the atmosphere. The network follows more than $6.5 billion in German Arrow 3 purchases from Israel. The expansion is a strategic export win for Israeli defense technology and a practical answer to the missile threat Israel has faced from Iran.
