Anak Krakatau Ash Closes Four Indonesian Airports

Volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau prompted temporary closures at Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Radin Inten II and Budiarto airports, Indonesia’s meteorological agency said. Satellite analysis at 08:00 WIB found two ash clusters spreading across Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Lampung, Bengkulu and surrounding waters. The agency said ash reached 20,000 feet eastward and 50,000 feet westward, while it had issued 18 aviation weather warnings since the eruption began. Indonesia’s Geological Agency kept the volcano at Level III and barred visitors within three kilometers of the activity center.
