Office-Conversion Committee Advances Plans for at Least 27,000 Homes

Israel’s special planning subcommittee for converting employment land to housing has about 7,000 homes in 10 plans under discussion and estimates another 20,000 homes across 15 newly identified sites. Its most advanced proposal would replace an unrealized office plan at Givat Shmuel’s Amitech site with two 32-story towers containing 400 apartments above five commercial and office floors. Half the apartments would be 50-square-meter units aimed at young households without children. The committee is prioritizing large sites near existing housing or planned transit, but the reported figures remain planning potential and it is not yet known how many homes will reach construction.
