Turkish FM Says No Open Conflict Needed With Israel

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara and Jerusalem have no reason to enter open conflict, even as he accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government of seeking an external enemy ahead of elections. The comments came in an interview after the Ankara NATO summit and followed recent Israeli warnings about Turkish rhetoric, Syria and possible U.S. F-35 access for Ankara. Fidan also said the U.S.-Iran ceasefire could still hold because the latest clash over the Strait of Hormuz reflected miscommunication, not a complete collapse. The same interview left in place his broader charge that Netanyahu's policies burden Israel and threaten regional security.
