Petitions Ask High Court to Freeze Karhi Communications Law

Three petitions were filed with the High Court shortly after the Knesset gave final approval to Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi’s broadcasting reform. The Movement for Quality Government asked the court to cancel the law and immediately suspend its entry into force, arguing that the legislative process bypassed legal objections and creates political influence over broadcast regulation. The Zulat Institute separately challenged the law, citing alleged harm to press freedom and public access to reliable information. Democratic Party faction chair Efrat Rayten and MK Eitan Ginzburg also petitioned, alleging procedural defects and preferential treatment for selected channels.
