The Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee approved Enav Group's Agron Tower plan at the corner of Agron and King George streets near Paris Square, rejecting the objections filed against it. The plan combines a 30-floor tower with 110 apartments, 114 hotel rooms, two retail floors and a floor of public institutions, replacing Beit Amir, which architect David Resnick designed in the 1960s. The new tower was designed by New York architect Ian Bader together with architects Anat Ayalon and Baruch Resnick. The committee wrote that the project offers a fitting framework for development at a central junction along the light rail axis, that tall construction there matches municipal and national policy of densifying along public transport corridors, and that the mix of uses will strengthen the city center, its economic activity and the public realm. Enav chief executive Efi Katz called the decision a significant milestone in one of Jerusalem's most complex urban renewal projects.
