El-Sayed Projected to Win Michigan Democratic Senate Primary

Abdul El-Sayed was projected to win Michigan's Democratic U.S. Senate primary, defeating Rep. Haley Stevens in a close contest with roughly 49% to 47% as nearly 90% of expected votes were counted. The former public health official will face Republican Mike Rogers in November for the open seat. El-Sayed has accused Israel of genocide and made criticism of Stevens's support for U.S. aid to Israel central to his campaign. Stevens was backed by more than $30 million from an AIPAC-affiliated group, while she and allied organizations spent nearly nine times as much on advertising as El-Sayed and his allies.
