Israel Launches National Bluefin Tuna Project in Eilat

Israel has launched its National Tuna Project at the National Center for Mariculture in Eilat, where researchers are raising dozens of juvenile Atlantic bluefin tuna under controlled conditions. The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry says it will invest about NIS 24 million, with Granot Group making a parallel investment in the first stage and the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research, KKL-JNF and Seanovation participating. Fertilized eggs arrived from Malta in June after nearly two decades of research. The project aims to establish closed-cycle captive breeding that can produce future eggs and juveniles without repeated capture from wild stocks.
