UN Counts 907 Aid Workers Attacked in 2025, Gaza Deadliest for Third Year

The United Nations humanitarian office said on Wednesday that 907 aid workers were killed, injured or kidnapped worldwide in 2025, a record total it attributed to Humanitarian Outcomes' Aid Worker Security Database. Deaths fell to 350 from the 383 the office reported for 2024, while 322 were injured and 235 kidnapped. Gaza was listed as the deadliest context for a third year with 186 humanitarians killed, followed by Sudan with 71. The release does not assign responsibility for those deaths, and it attributes the wider trend to the spread of cheap armed drones, citing Sudan, Ukraine and Colombia. Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said states must uphold international humanitarian law.
