Coalition Sets Torah Study Basic Law Marathon

The House Committee will meet three days in a row, Sunday through Tuesday, on Basic Law: Torah Study, with the coalition aiming to bring it to the plenum Wednesday for its final readings. The move is part of a two-week legislative sprint before the Knesset's July 17 finish, alongside a bill freezing arrests of yeshiva students absent from draft orders. The bill already passed first reading and returned to committee for second and third readings. Torah study is a foundational Jewish value, but Israel also faces an urgent IDF manpower challenge; the responsible path is legislation that honors yeshivot, protects soldiers and survives legal scrutiny.
