State Department Blocks Mamdani Aide Meeting With Iran Envoy

U.S. State Department officials blocked a planned July 7 meeting between Ana Maria Archila, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's international affairs commissioner, and Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran's UN envoy, according to reports citing calendar records and officials familiar with the matter. The meeting was scheduled for 2 United Nations Plaza with two other city international-affairs officials, but was canceled after federal officials told the city the contact was not acceptable while Washington and Tehran were trading fire.
