Sharren Haskel Resigns as Deputy Foreign Minister Over Draft-Arrest Freeze

Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel resigned from her government post Tuesday after the Knesset approved the five-month draft-arrest freeze. Haskel, who remains an MK, voted against the measure and said she could no longer stand behind a government decision that harmed Israelis who have defended the country for three years. The temporary law immediately pauses arrest and enforcement proceedings for eligible full-time yeshiva students through the end of November, subject to study declarations and inspections. Haskel had repeatedly opposed the coalition's draft legislation, arguing that Israel needs more combat troops and regular-service soldiers to meet future security challenges.
