Israel Cuts Short Rome Talks With Lebanon Over Repeated Leaks

Israel cut short the second day of the seventh round of United States-brokered talks with Lebanon in Rome on Wednesday, ending the session about three hours early. Yechiel Leiter, Israel's ambassador to the United States and head of its delegation, asked the American mediators to suspend the day's negotiations, citing repeated misleading leaks by the Lebanese delegation. The technical teams had reconvened Tuesday to advance the trilateral framework reached in June, which calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, deployment of the Lebanese army, and the removal of Hezbollah weapons. Both sides are expected to return Thursday for the final scheduled day of the round.
