Iran Conditions Hormuz Reopening on U.S. Concessions and Compensation

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Monday that Tehran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States meets its conditions and makes amends for what he called illegal and destructive actions. Iran is demanding an end to U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran and Iran-aligned groups in Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen and Iraq, removal of the U.S. naval blockade and nearby forces, compensation for war damage, sanctions relief, and release of frozen assets. Separate talks with Oman could create a temporary shipping corridor, but Iranian officials say that would not amount to a full reopening. The strait normally carries about one-fifth of globally traded oil.
