Iranian Military Spokesperson Says Staff at Three Media Outlets Could Be Military Targets

Brigadier-General Abolfazl Shekarchi, a senior spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, said employees of BBC, Iran International and Radio Farda could be placed in the country’s military target bank. Speaking at a ceremony for Defapress’s foreign-language pages, he alleged that the outlets are backed by Mossad, the CIA and other hostile intelligence services, claims the source did not independently substantiate. Shekarchi said Iran regards staff at the organizations as soldiers of Israel and the United States rather than journalists. He also accused the outlets of promoting violence and disrupting public psychological well-being.
