Australia’s National Cabinet Agrees AI, Firearms and Domestic Violence Reforms

Australia’s National Cabinet has agreed reforms spanning artificial intelligence infrastructure, domestic-violence response, firearms and biosecurity. First Ministers backed mandatory national energy, water and land-use standards for large data centres and a new domestic-violence risk framework that jurisdictions must align with within two years. They also signed the first update to the National Firearms Agreement since 2017, including intelligence sharing, citizenship-based licensing rules and restrictions on 3D-printed weapons. The Commonwealth added $125 million for H5 bird-flu response, lifting its total investment above $270 million.
