Hospital Nursery Fire Kills at Least 14 Newborns in Islamabad

At least 14 newborns died in a fire in the nursery of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, official reports said. The fire call was logged at 6:54 a.m., and crews arrived within seven minutes with six fire-brigade units and four ambulances before transferring rescued children to intensive care. Islamabad authorities formed a committee to examine the cause, fire-safety measures and emergency response. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an immediate inquiry and directed officials to provide medical care to surviving babies and support to the affected families.
