Brazil Starts Nationwide Free Election Broadcasts Ahead of October Vote

Brazil’s free election broadcasts began nationwide Friday, opening a 35-day first-round schedule that runs through October 1. Radio stations carry two 25-minute blocks at 7 a.m. and noon, while television stations air them at 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; shorter campaign inserts also run during regular programming. Presidential and federal-deputy programs air on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with Saturday marking the first presidential slot. Senate, governor, state-deputy and district-deputy programs run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays ahead of the October 4 vote, with a possible runoff on October 25.
