Flood Watch Remains as About 15 Stay Unaccounted for After Grand Canyon Flood

About 15 people remained unaccounted for after flash flooding in Grand Canyon National Park, as the National Weather Service kept a flood watch in effect through Monday evening. The National Park Service said the August 29 flood struck Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch at about 2:30 p.m. MST, destroyed nearly all footbridges over Bright Angel Creek and led to 62 evacuations. A 46-year-old man’s body was recovered near Crystal Rapids on Sunday evening. Phantom Ranch and the North Kaibab Trail remained closed, while saturated soils and monsoonal moisture raised the risk of more flash flooding.
