Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s New Birthright Citizenship Order for Certified Class

U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman issued a preliminary injunction barring federal agencies from enforcing President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14418 against a certified class of U.S.-born children. The class covers children born after February 19, 2025 in specified cases where neither parent is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Boardman said the Supreme Court had already held the same class to be citizens at birth and found likely irreparable harm. The order does not cover certain territories, leaves implementation guidance untouched, and remains in force until further court action.
