U.S. Strikes Two Iranian Government Tankers Under New Retaliatory Policy

U.S. forces struck two Iranian government tankers anchored off Iran’s coast during the Sept. 1 attack wave, according to reports citing U.S. officials. Drones fired missiles into the vessels’ engine rooms while they were north of the U.S. naval-blockade line. An official described the action as part of a new “tanker for tanker” policy approved by President Donald Trump to deter attacks on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said the broader operation struck IRGC maritime assets, air defenses, radars, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites after attempted attacks on commercial shipping and American personnel.
