Pacific Leaders Set 2030 Path for Regional Institution Reforms

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of delegates seated around a Pacific Islands Forum conference table with regional flags in the foreground, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Meeting in Koror, Palau, from August 31 to September 3, Pacific Islands Forum leaders backed revised communiqué procedures and a single transition and implementation pathway for regional-architecture reforms through 2030. They agreed to place partners in two streams under the 2025 Leaders Policy on Partnerships, review the model after one year, and introduce an accountability framework from 2027. The Forum Troika will oversee implementation and report periodically to leaders. The communiqué also directs work on closer parliamentary links, Tonga’s ARISE 2050 leadership pilot, and an international engagement strategy for consideration in 2027.
