For the first time in nine years, I spent the entire summer in Denmark. A lot of ups and downs, but I’m thankful that I got to be here, of all places, surrounded by the best people. Today, I’m flying to Munich, Germany, where I’ve been invited to participate in a two-day conference on the Middle East, along with politicians, newspaper editors, professors, experts, etc. I’m very much looking forward to learning a lot and meeting new, interesting people. When the conference is over, I’ll be flying back to Israel, where I’ll do what I do best: cover the Middle East. So stay tuned. Lots of stories to unpack on the horizon. Thanks to everyone who made my summer ❤️🇩🇰
My latest: President Trump declined to launch military strikes against the Houthis in Yemen as the terror group seized a strategic Red Sea port. The president reportedly declined as Washington has no plans to intervene in the escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. The report comes as the Houthis captured the key port city of Mokha on the Red Sea and the nearby Zuqar island. Mokha is less than 50 miles away from the 12 mile-wide Bab el Mandeb Strait, sparking concerns that the Houthis could further disrupt shipping in the Red Sea.
The Israeli military says it killed the commander of Hamas’ military wing Khan Younis Brigade: IDF and Shin Bet: “Last night (Thursday), in a precise strike in the area of Khan Younis, the IDF and ISA eliminated Muhammad Yazouri, Commander of Hamas’ military wing Khan Younis Brigade in the Gaza Strip. The terrorist Muhammad Yazouri was appointed to his position after holding several roles within the brigade, including Deputy Commander of the Khan Younis Brigade, Commander of the Combat Support Battalion, and Head of the Brigade’s Intelligence Department. As part of his role, Muhammad Yazouri was responsible for managing the activities of the brigade’s terrorists and directing them to carry out attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians. In recent months, he worked to advance dozens of attacks against IDF troops and sought to rebuild the brigade’s force buildup, which had suffered significant damage throughout the war. In the same strike, Hudheifa Muammar, a company commander, and Muhammad Bahjat Rashi, another terrorist from Hamas’ military wing in the Khan Younis Brigade, were eliminated. Prior to the strike, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.”
The IDF has blown up a major Hezbollah tunnel system underneath the Ali Taher Ridge - a strategic point in south Lebanon. An Israeli military official tells me: 1: “In recent months, IDF soldiers increased the military pressure on terrorists who were operating from the underground infrastructure on the Ali al-Taher Ridge.” 2: “Initially, IDF soldiers achieved operational control over the ridge from above ground through offensive operational activities that included ambushes, strikes on tunnel shafts using fire, grenades, drones, and additional means.” 3: “Subsequently, the soldiers also achieved operational control below ground across the ridge area. This was a lengthy and localized operation within the Security Zone, aimed at neutralizing the ability to plan and carry out terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers from the underground infrastructure.” 4: “The network of underground routes throughout the Ali al-Taher Ridge consisted of a total of eight underground routes, with a combined length of more than 5,400 meters. Various types of weapons were located within the underground infrastructure by the IDF, including dozens of explosive drones, UAVs, machine guns and anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines, RPG rockets, explosive devices, and additional military equipment.” 5: “Some of the terrorists who were staying in the ridge area abandoned the area, while others were eliminated. Terrorists identified as attempting to leave the area or bring supplies into the infrastructure were eliminated by aerial strikes and artillery fire. During an encounter involving IDF soldiers, a terrorist was eliminated at close range while attempting to flee from one of the underground routes.” 6: “Upon achieving operational control both above and below ground, the IDF achieved two objectives: the neutralization and dismantling of strategic underground infrastructure for Hezbollah, which served as a central command-and-control center for the “Badr” Unit; and the achievement of operational control over the Ali Taher Ridge, which constitutes commanding terrain overlooking the Nabatieh area, the capital of the Shiite community in southern Lebanon.” 7: “Upon completion of the operation, the IDF completed the dismantling of the majority of the underground routes throughout the ridge, rendering them unusable for terrorists seeking to entrench themselves underground or plan attacks from within them. This follows the dismantling of the main underground routes in the Beaufort Ridge and the surrounding villages of Arnoun, Yohmor, and Tibnit.” Prime minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said: “In accordance with the directive of the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister, the IDF has now destroyed the underground infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Ali Taher ridge, thereby completing the consolidation of the security zone in southern Lebanon. This was strategic terror infrastructure built over two decades, with Iranian funding and planning. The terror infrastructure and the command center on the ridge were designed to serve as the staging base for the conquest of the Galilee, and had observation and fire dominance over Metula and Kiryat Shmona. Their destruction completes the achievement of operational control over the Ali Taher ridge – above and below ground. IDF forces are deploying for defense in the area and to prevent enemy forces from returning to the territory. The IDF will remain in the security zone and will continue destroying terror infrastructure and thwarting any attempt by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to re-establish itself and restore its capabilities. The State of Israel will continue to defend the northern communities from within Lebanon – and any attempt to harm our citizens and our forces will be met with force.” Footage credit: @manniefabian
My latest: American fighter jets were damaged in an Iranian ballistic missile attack in Jordan as President Trump said Washington is no longer looking to negotiate with Tehran. Eight F-15 fighter jets and one A-10 Thunderbolt were damaged in the missile attack Tuesday overnight at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base at Jordan, according to CBS News which cited people with direct knowledge of the matter. @POTUS downplayed the prospects of Washington striking a deal with Tehran, saying: “We’re not looking for it, to be honest. Originally I wanted to make a deal.”
My latest: Israel is demanding that Belgium issue a public apology for summoning the country’s ambassador after an Israeli airstrike killed an employee of Belgium’s development agency Enabel. Belgium summoned Israel’s ambassador after Abdallah Nabhan was killed in Gaza in April 2024. @IsraelMFA shared a post by @GabrielEpsteinX - a Senior Policy Associate at the Israel Policy Forum - where Nabhan is seen wearing a military uniform.
The Israeli military continues to hunt down Hamas members who took part in the October 7 massacre. IDF and Shin Bet: “Earlier this week (Wednesday), the IDF and ISA conducted a strike in the Khan Yunis area in the southern Gaza Strip and eliminated the terrorist Muhammad Mahmoud Marshad Al-Qadi, a Nukhba company commander in Hamas' military wing. Al-Qadi infiltrated the Sufa outpost during the October 7th Massacre and commanded the infiltration of the outpost. Throughout the war, he took part in holding hostages in Hamas captivity in the Rafah area. Recently, Al-Qadi led training for Hamas terrorists and operated to rehabilitate the terrorist organization's capabilities. Additionally, the terrorist advanced terror attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians in systematic violation of the ceasefire agreement. The terrorist was eliminated in order to remove the threat that he posed. IDF troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to operate to remove any threat.”
Iran is warning the United States that it will launch a large-scale attack against Israel if the Israel Defense Forces strike a strategic ridge in southern Lebanon where Iranian military personnel are located alongside Hezbollah. My latest for @NewYorkSun https://t.co/NhcC1yFl0T
U.S. ambassador to Israel, @USAmbIsrael says he “prays” for settlers who torched a mosque in the West Bank and left graffiti with his name on a different building. My latest for @NewYorkSun https://t.co/4QgqIt1pJE
@realDonaldTrump denied that a series of American attacks in Iran were meant to bring back Tehran to the negotiation table while asking when the Iranian people will “rise up and fight?” My latest for @NewYorkSun https://t.co/92kJRyBTgN
‼️🚨 The U.S. military attacked Iranian air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine laying capabilities, and communications sites.
My latest for @NewYorkSun Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Tehran is ready to “immediately” re-enter the memorandum of understanding with the U.S. signed in June if Washington chooses to do so. “I state explicitly that if the United States returns to its commitments under the aforementioned memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take reciprocal action,” Pezeshkian said at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan. The president’s statement came after President Trump threatened to “smack” Iran after Tehran fired ballistic missiles and drones at U.S. army bases in Jordan and the UAE in response to American attacks on Iranian rocket launchers.
My latest column – this time about the conflict over Israel’s judicial system that nearly brought the country to the brink of civil war before October 7. A lot of the planned legislation that would’ve significantly weakened the Supreme Court was never passed due to a combination of mass demonstrations across the country, nationwide strikes and, of course, October 7. I interviewed the architect of the judicial overhaul, @rothmar a lawmaker from Religious Zionism and head of the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. He told me in no uncertain terms that, should the Netanyahu government be re-elected, it would continue to pass legislation that would essentially grant the government more power at the expense of the judicial system. Opposition leader @yairlapid meanwhile, told me that should the opposition win the election, it is “committed to cancelling the outgoing government’s legislation that undermines these – including the law politicising the selection of judges and the wild string of laws they passed in their final weeks.” My column describes in detail which judicial reforms have passed so far under Netanyahu’s government, what the arguments are on both sides when it comes to the balance of power between the courts and the government, and how the issue is expected to spark heated debate as the nation prepares to go to the polls.
Intet nyt under solen. Lyt med her: https://t.co/OUcF29GQVg
On Saudi TV today, discussing the growing problem of settler violence in the West Bank: • For six days in a row, settlers have barricaded themselves outside Palestinian homes — and the IDF has failed to remove them. • This isn’t a new problem. The IDF’s lack of will to enforce the law and prevent violent settlers from terrorizing Palestinians has been going on for years — and it has only gotten worse. • The contrast is striking: the IDF can carry out some of the world’s most advanced counter-terror operations against Palestinian terrorists. Yet when confronted with a handful of settler terrorists — as the U.S. ambassador recently called them — it somehow fails to perform the most basic task. • Part of the problem is political. Israeli cabinet ministers have repeatedly backed these settlers, making enforcement even more difficult. • Netanyahu has refused to properly confront the issue. With an election campaign underway, he has little interest in picking a public fight with the hardcore settlement community. • The vast majority of settlers are not violent thugs. They are ordinary, peaceful people living in the West Bank. But that makes the failure to deal with the violent minority even more indefensible. This is a systemic problem — and one that Israel has allowed to grow for far too long.
