France’s CGT union estimated that more than 450,000 people marched nationwide in student demonstrations on October 6. In an evening statement issued in Montreuil, it urged the government to respond without delay to young people’s demands. The union called for increased education funding, more staff, smaller classes and better school buildings. CGT said it would continue opening its union premises for young people’s meetings and join students again on Thursday, October 8, announcing further mobilization after the day’s marches.
