The Nigerian Army said Wednesday that its preliminary assessment showed more than 25 ISWAP fighters were killed while troops repelled a Tuesday-night attack in Kukawa, Borno State. Captain Mohammed Goni said 14 bodies and six AK-47 rifles had been recovered, along with other arms and ammunition. Troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, received air support as attackers approached from four directions. The Army acknowledged that some soldiers were killed but did not give a number. Surviving attackers fled and follow-up operations continued; the reported fighter death toll remains a provisional military claim.
