Peru’s Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal to delegate legislative powers to the executive for 90 calendar days on public security and the El Niño weather phenomenon. The majority text passed after reconsideration with 66 votes in favor, 34 against and 24 abstentions. Chamber president Oscar Reto Otero said it would go to the Senate to continue the legislative procedure. Its 20 measures cover migration controls, illicit communications, weapons oversight, prison reform and action against organized crime, alongside humanitarian assistance, agricultural support and infrastructure procedures for El Niño emergencies.
