Jewish Democrats Back Nessel’s Decision to Skip Michigan Convention

Jewish Democratic leaders voiced support Friday for Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's decision to skip her party's August nominating convention, where its Senate candidate will be finalized. Nessel said she did not feel safe attending because she expected harassment and had filed a complaint over a party official who called her a neo-Nazi. Michigan Jewish Democratic caucus chair Jessica "Decky" Alexander said she understood Nessel's choice, while Jewish Democratic Council CEO Halie Soifer said other Jewish Democrats had described discomfort at an earlier convention. The controversy comes amid a Senate primary divided over Israel and antisemitism.
