Hezbollah Chief Demands Israel-Lebanon Framework Deal Be Reversed

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem seated on a red upholstered bench while an interviewer holds a recorder between them.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem called the U.S.-backed Israel-Lebanon framework a “disgrace,” a “mistake” and a “sin” that Lebanese authorities should reverse. The framework requires the terrorist group’s disarmament, Lebanese Army deployment and the clearance of Hezbollah weapons and infrastructure in pilot zones, alongside a gradual Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Qassem cited Zawtar al-Gharbiyah and Mansouri as failed pilot areas and opposed outside supervision of the Lebanese Army. He said Hezbollah would retain what he described as its defensive role and urged a return to the November 2024 ceasefire framework.
