Argentine Judge Orders Sea Lion Oil Project Halt Pending Environmental Review

Federal Judge Mariel Borruto in Río Grande granted an injunction sought by AAdeAA and CECIM against Rockhopper Exploration and Navitas Petroleum over the Sea Lion project north of the Falkland Islands. The order bars drilling, subsea infrastructure, pipelines, floating production and commercial extraction until Argentina's national environmental authority completes a review or the court orders otherwise. The companies have 10 judicial days to disclose project schedules, wells, contractors, financing, insurance and environmental studies. Borruto said the provisional measure does not decide liability, while the ruling described the environmental risk as neither hypothetical nor remote.
