Classiq and Israel Natural Gas Lines Announce Quantum Planning Results

Israeli quantum-software company Classiq and Israel Natural Gas Lines announced results from a proof of concept applying hybrid quantum-classical optimization to gas-transmission planning. Their research paper reports that a simulator found a valid maximum-throughput solution for a representative network under pressure, flow and delivery constraints, consistent with a classical benchmark. A reduced version run on IonQ's Forte-1 trapped-ion computer produced physically valid candidate operating points near the classical optimum. The companies present the method as a way to suggest scenarios for engineers to assess with established hydraulic models, rather than a replacement for operational planning. The paper was submitted on September 1; Wednesday's release announced the results.
