Xi Says Talks With Trump Reached “Common Understanding” at White House State Dinner

Chinese President Xi Jinping told a state dinner hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on September 24 that their talks had been “sincere and in-depth” and reached “common understanding on many issues,” though he named no specific agreement. Trump said the two leaders “represent different systems, but the ties between our people endure, and we’ve never gotten along better,” and presented Xi with a gold bald eagle statue. About 134 guests, including technology executives Tim Cook, Jensen Huang and Elon Musk, attended in the East Room. Xi said the two countries should “explore a new approach for major countries to get along with each other.”
