Morocco beat Gabon 2-0 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on September 25 in their opening Group A match of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Noussair Mazraoui scored in the 36th minute and substitute Soufiane Rahimi added the second in the 84th, while goalkeeper Yassine Bounou kept a clean sheet. It was Mohamed Ouahbi's first competitive match as Morocco coach, played without suspended captain Achraf Hakimi. Ouahbi said Morocco completely controlled the game and created many chances but could perform better. Morocco next face Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
