Trump Rejected Iran's Seven-Day Truce Offer, Expects Post-Midterm Strikes, Officials Say

President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the U.S. midterm elections in November, according to U.S. officials. Tehran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks in exchange for Washington lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports. The officials said Trump privately doubts Iran will meet his demands but is in no hurry to resume large-scale combat, partly to preserve shrinking U.S. munitions stocks; the scope of any strikes is unclear and his views could change. A U.S. official said negotiations through mediators, including on the nuclear issue, are continuing.
