Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Sunday that Washington had recently sent proposals through an intermediary while making different statements publicly. He said Hormuz would remain closed until Iran's seven conditions under the Islamabad memorandum were fulfilled, and that Iran would pursue military confrontation and negotiations simultaneously. He did not detail the proposals or announce an agreement. He also praised the October 7 attack on Israel. In background updated September 8, the IDF said its operations addressed Iranian nuclear weaponization and ballistic missile expansion amid years of direct and proxy attacks.
