Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran and Muscat have finalized an understanding that should form the basis for future regional shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz. He said the two coastal states spent several weeks defining coordinates for a safe commercial route and had planned to present the result to regional governments in Salalah. Baghaei said that meeting opportunity was lost, but talks around the U.N. General Assembly in New York could advance the plan if other parties are willing. The account is Iran's stated position, not confirmation that a wider regional agreement has been reached.
