How the 120 seats are allocated

Threshold
A list needs at least 3.25% of the valid votes to win any seats.
Seat allocation
Seats are divided by the Bader-Ofer method, and two lists may sign a surplus-vote agreement to pool their leftover votes.
Coalition
Every Israeli government so far has been a coalition of more than one party. A majority of the Knesset is 61 of the 120 seats.

Surplus-vote agreements for 2026

Two lists that both pass the threshold can pool their leftover votes for the last seats. The Central Elections Committee published these agreements on 19 October 2026:

  • Together (Bennett-Lapid) and Yisrael Beytenu
  • Joint List (Hadash-Ta'al-Balad) and Ra'am
  • Religious Zionism-Zehut and Likud
  • United Torah Judaism and Shas
  • The Democrats and Yashar (Eisenkot)
  • The notice also pairs two smaller lists.

Questions and answers

When do the exit polls come out?

At 22:00 on 27 October 2026, when most polling stations close. From Friday night until then, no new poll results may be published.

When will the results be known?

Each polling station counts its ballots as soon as voting ends there, at 22:00 for most stations, and double-envelope votes are counted afterwards at the Knesset. The Central Elections Committee publishes the official results within eight days, by 4 November 2026.

How many seats are needed to form a government?

There is no fixed number in law: a new government takes office once it wins a vote of confidence in the Knesset, which needs more votes for it than against. A majority of the Knesset is 61 of the 120 seats, and every Israeli government so far has been a coalition of more than one party.

What is the electoral threshold?

A list must win at least 3.25% of the valid votes to enter the Knesset. In 2022 that meant 154,855 votes.
