Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Accessibility is part of our design, engineering, editorial, and maintenance work. Essential content and functions must remain usable without turning on an optional display mode.

Technical target

We use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as our current engineering target and consider applicable Israeli Standard 5568 requirements when they apply. Accessibility is an ongoing process as content, browsers, assistive technologies, and the Site change.

This statement describes our current work and testing. It is not a formal certification that every page, state, or item of third-party content conforms to WCAG.

Accessibility features

• Primary navigation, controls, forms, and dialogs support keyboard operation.
• A localized skip link moves keyboard and screen-reader users directly to the main content.
• An optional accessibility presentation provides larger text, stronger contrast, larger controls, clearer focus, and underlined prose links.
• Reduced-motion preferences stop decorative animation, smooth scrolling, and scripted motion.
• Layouts are responsive and designed to support browser zoom, text enlargement, touch, mouse, and keyboard input.
• The interface and accessibility controls are localized in English, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese, including RTL Hebrew support.

How we test

Our Playwright suite runs axe-core rules tagged for WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 Levels A and AA across representative public templates, authenticated states, dialogs, mobile Settings, light and dark themes, and RTL content.

Automation detects only part of accessibility barriers. Manual keyboard, zoom, reflow, contrast, and assistive-technology review is tracked separately and is not represented as complete until it is recorded in our audit report.

Known limitations

We are continuing to review and improve the Site. Current limitations include:

• A full independent screen-reader and WCAG conformance review has not yet been completed across every route and state.
• Some dense maps, canvases, charts, and diagrams may not provide an equivalent experience with every assistive technology. We can provide the underlying information in an accessible alternative format on request.
• External websites, linked documents, embedded services, and user-submitted content may be outside our direct control.

Report a barrier or request an alternative

If you cannot access content or complete a task, email admin@thestateofisrael.com.

Please include, when possible:

• the page URL;
• what you were trying to do and what prevented you from doing it;
• your browser, device, and operating system; and
• the assistive technology and version you were using, if any.

We aim to acknowledge substantive reports within seven days, prioritize barriers that block access to core content or account functions, and provide a reasonable accessible alternative while a fix is being developed when possible.
