October Council Urges New Knesset to Establish State Inquiry Without Delay

The October Council called on party leaders and members of the incoming Knesset to commit to establishing a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre. The families’ organization issued its appeal after Israel’s election exit polls on October 27, asking politicians who had pledged support for such a commission to act together. The Council said the emerging parliamentary picture indicated a majority of 70 members in favor of a state inquiry. That figure was the organization’s assessment following the exit polls, rather than a certified election result. It described the vote as a choice about truth and responsibility, linking the election outcome to its demand for an investigation into the massacre. The organization asked supporters of a state commission to make their joint commitment before the new Knesset convenes. It called for work to establish the commission to begin on the legislature’s first day, “without delay and without conditions.” The appeal addressed both party leaders and lawmakers who had already committed to that form of inquiry. In its own fundraising campaign, the Council describes a continuing public and legal effort for truth, accountability and justice for affected families. It says that effort includes activity in the Knesset, the courts, the media and public demonstrations. The election-night statement brings that campaign’s demand before the incoming parliament.
