Iran’s IRGC Says It Struck Togo-Flagged Tanker Trend in Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said it struck the Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend on Thursday night as the vessel tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC alleged the passage was illegal and that the U.S. military had encouraged or misled the ship; neither claim was independently verified. Its statement said the strike caused a fire and stopped the tanker. No crew status, casualty count, cargo, owner, precise coordinates or independently confirmed damage was provided, and a UK Maritime Trade Operations warning cited in later reports did not identify the vessel.
