U.S. Says It Destroyed Two Iranian Boats Trying to Seize Navy Drone

U.S. officials said two Iranian small boats tried to seize an unmanned U.S. Navy surface vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, prompting an American drone to fire two missiles and destroy them. U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said the attempted seizure failed, all American unmanned vessels were accounted for and the roughly 25-foot Saildrone remained under U.S. control. An unnamed U.S. official said most people aboard were killed. Hormozgan deputy governor Ahmad Nafisi instead described the boats as fishing vessels, said fishermen were missing, and reported search-and-rescue work near Larak Island and Bandar Kargan.
